After four long years away from the top table of Scottish football Rangers finally made their return to the Premiership in a less-than-impressive 1-1 draw with Hamilton at Ibrox. The sell-out crowd were silenced in the first half as Hamilton took a surprise lead. Despite dominating much of the possession Rangers looked disjointed and Tuesday’s game with Peterhead could give a few players an opportunity to claim a regular start. Martyn Waghorn equalised in the second just after the hour but Rangers couldn’t get a second to cap off a day that had began with the unfurling of the Championship flag.
King claims more new faces may be on their way
In an interview with RangersTV, chairman Dave King claimed the club was in talks with a "couple" of targets as Mark Warburton continues to improve his side to meet expectations this season. A new central defender and striker look to be the two most obvious positions needing filled and as transfer deadline day gets closer it shouldn’t take long for King to deliver.
Martyn Waghorn injured
Anyone who watched the 1-1 draw with Hamilton will have seen Martyn Waghorn collapse with what looked like a hamstring injury. A long injury lay-off for Waghorn would be a miss as he’s been in a good run of goalscoring form so far this season and as others struggle to find top gear quite yet, last season’s top scorer had continued to impress. Michael O’Halloran or Joe Dodoo will replace him although both may come into the side with Kenny Miller dropping out.
Harry Forrester’s pass
Despite the signing of big names like Niko Kranjcar and Joey Barton players like Harry Forrester and Andy Halliday have shown in recent games that they aren’t just here to make up the numbers and Harry Forrester’s pass to Waghorn to set the equaliser up was just fantastic. Minutes after coming off the bench, and probably a long time after he should have been on, his right foot pass with the outside of the boot was perfect for Waghorn to tuck home with a finish of some difficulty.
