Reports in Turkey tonight claim Robin Van Persie is on his way to Ibrox in the most surprising transfer of the summer.Van Persie who counts Manchester United and Arsenal amongst his former clubs currently plays for Turkish Superlig side Fenerbahce but the recent attempted coup in the country has reportedly led to many of the western European players based there to reconsider their future.

Translaton: Robin van Persie, made a deal with the Rangers. Fenerbahce said the event will result in a transfer.

RangersTV commentator Tom Miller suggested that Rangers' next signing would be sensational and if it is indeed Van Persie he wouldn''t be far wrong. Van Persie would join Niko Kranjcar, Joey Barton, Josh Windass, Matt Crooks, Jordan Rossiter, Joe Dodoo, Clint Hill, Lee Hodson and Matt Gilks as new faces in the Rangers squad as they prepare for a title challenge.

Van Persie was first linked with a move to Ibrox shortly after making the breakthrough at Feyenoord before moving to Arsenal for £2.75m where he went on to score 132 times and become club captain. After 8 years with the Gunner he moved on to Manchester United where, after a fantastic first season, he struggled to replicate the form which saw him shortlisted for UEFA's player of the year. A move to Turkey followed in 2015 after Louis van Gaal offloaded his fellow Dutchman to bring in younger blood like Anthony Martial.
