Rangers set for "sensational" transfer coup

Rangers are seemingly about to make a massive signing. Nobody has a clue who it is.

Rangers' transfer window has gone pretty smoothly so far, with the club getting in most of their recruits early and settling the new-look squad in during the League Cup group stage.

However, even after the signing of Joe Dodoo, Mark Warburton said that one or two would still be following, likely a centre-back and striker. And it appears one of them might be pretty exciting indeed.

Tom Miller, of Rangers TV, mentioned last night during the game against Stranraer that the next signing would be "sensational", while another well-informed Rangers source commented that it was "a signing that would send shockwaves."

The problem is, nobody outside that circle seems to have a clue who it is. Will Grigg doesn't look a goer. The Kyle Lafferty (hey, 'shockwaves' and 'sensational' don't have to necessarily mean the quality or profile of the player) rumours don't appear to have much behind them. Robin van Persie was a non-starter. The weird Rudy Gestede rumour seems highly fanciful (and not very interesting) too.

We'll keep you posted on any updates, but everybody seems in the dark at the moment. As soon as word reaches us of the inevitably disappointing name, you'll find it on here.
