Rangers struggled to a 1-0 defeat away to Hamilton tonight at a wet and wild SuperSeal Stadium.
The opening spell was a fairly poor 45 minutes for Rangers with the young Gers struggling to impose themselves on the game in any meaningful manner. Numerous individual mistakes, and a well-executed game plan by the hosts, saw Rangers pinned back in their own half for long spells of the half. Josh Windass continued his rehab from injury but had no impact on the game in the first half.
Accies took the lead ten minutes before the break when McCrorie misjudged his punch on corner a before the ball fell for Cunningham who tapped home from a yard to send the hosts in with an advantage. It was no more than Accies deserved but Rangers will disappointed to lose such a cheap goal.
Josh Windass was hooked at the break with Ryan Hardie replacing him and the younng Gers looked a bit more lively. Ryan Hardie and Liam Burt found spaces to get in behind the Accies defence and force Jamieson to be alert in the Accies goal. The young Gers looked a totally different side to the opening 45 and probably should have scored in the early stages after the break when they dominated possession.
With fifteen minutes left Ryan Hardie had a gilt-edged chance to level the scores when Liam Burt’s inch-perfect through ball sent him one-on-one with Jamieson but the forward pulled his shot just wide of the upright.
As the clock ticked away Hardie had several other chances, one rattling the bar and another going just wide, but it looked as though it wasn’t to be the young Gers’ night.
