Rangers have confirmed the signing of Portuguese defender Bruno Alves from Italian side Cagliari as Pedro Caixinha makes his first moves in the transfer market since being appointed Rangers boss in March.
The 35-year-old Portugal international arrived has been rumoured to be a target for the Gers for a number of months and has finally put pen-to-paper before heading to Russia for the FIFA Confederations Cup.
Alves has made 89 appearances for his national side in a trophy-laden career that has saw him represent Porto, Fenerbahce, Zenit St. Petersburg and Cagliari before making the move to join up with compatriot Caixinha in Glasgow.
Speaking to RangersTV, the defender said: "I’m very happy to join the club and I’ll do my best to win. That was the main reason that I came here. I have this feeling and desire to win and moving here will bring this back to me and my career. At almost all the clubs I’ve been at I’ve won and I expect to win here for the fans and for the club."
"I have so many great memories of what I’ve left (at Cagliari) and what I want to leave here. It’s going to be amazing, I’m sure of that."
We’ll have more from Bruno Alves and Pedro Caixinha later today.
