Rangers will appoint Derek McInnes as manager if they fail to secure the services of Pedro Caixinha, according to Gerry McCulloch of Clyde 1.

The Aberdeen manager has been viewed by fans, and possibly the board, as a safe pair of hands but one unlikely to take the club to the level of competing with Celtic. Caixinha seems to be a bigger gamble, but has been installed as the favourite and the board's number one target.

But according to McCulloch, if the deal falls through, McInnes will be the man they go after.

Reports have said that Rangers could announce their new Director of Football tomorrow - at this stage, that looks likely to be Ross Wilson, of Southampton. He is believed to have recommended Caixinha as manager, so whether all the pieces fall together or not, we're probably about to find out.

We'd still make Caixinha the favourite, but this is new information.
