Graeme Murty’s side will be disappointed to have not taken full points against Aberdeen after their 2-2 draw at Forthbank. A frustrating opening period saw Rangers lose two players to injury. First, Ross McCrorie had to be stretchered off before Jack Thomson had to be replaced just before the break adding to Jamie Barjonas who missed out through an injury picked up in training. Neither side could take control of the game in the opening 45 with real chances few and far between. Aberdeen tested Robby McCrorie early on but that was the Dons’ only real chance until they opened the scoring through WRight in 26 minutes. A ball over the top caused confusion in the Rangers defence which Wright capitalised on before firing home. In the process, Ross McCrorie and Aidan Wilson collided, leaving McCrorie to be stretchered off.
McCrorie’s injury caused a lengthy delay and it was deep into stoppage time in the first half when Rangers equalised. After some serious pressure, the ball fell for Lim Burt in the Don’s penalty box before he stroked the ball home to level the scores.
Rangers could have taken an early lead in the second half but for a fantastic save from Mutch and more than a little bit of luck when Lyon’s shot struck the post with the goal at his mercy.
Rangers finally took the lead with just over 10 minutes left when Zak Rudden rifled a shot beyond Mutch. The ball fell nicely for the big striker who turned superbly before picking his spot and leaving Mutch with no chance.
Aberdeen then added another couple of bodies to the tally with both Max Ashmore and Jordan Houston taken off and Rangers ending the game with 10 men. The Dons took advantage of their mumerical advantage and almost instantlu equalised through McLennan with a well-taken header at the back post.
