Rangers chasing ANOTHER Liverpool player as contract talks stall

Rangers are believed to be interested in Liverpool's Sergi Canos, according to a report in the Independent.

Rangers could make a transfer move for Liverpool youngster Sergi Canos, according to the Independent.

The Spanish 19 year-old only has one year left on his contract at Anfield and the two parties are still "some way apart" on a deal. That means that Liverpool are likely to make a sale this season.

This is probably fairly reliable. GTBFO knows the author of the story and he's one of the good guys. Where it might seem less likely is that the article also reports that Brentford are interested and that Canos would command a transfer fee of "at least £1m."

While Rangers could probably afford to spend that much on a player, whether they'll do it on a 19 year-old who only has a few minutes of first team football to his name is highly questionable. Particularly since the club seems well-stocked for midfielders taking into account the talks with Joey Barton and Graham Dorrans (and a new link today of Niko Kranjcar.)

We're doubtful over this one, although it's possible that the club could try and get the player to stick it out with Liverpol until January so we can sign him on the cheap. We'll have to see. He's undoubtedly a very promising player, but we look like we're about to be very heavy in the midfield department, and we have no shortage of our own promising youngsters there either, with the likes of Liam Burt, Jordan Thompson and Jamie Barjonas. We'll keep our eyes peeled for further developments.
