A strong development side saw off Ross County in an evenly-balanced match at the Global Energy Stadium in Dingwall. First team stars Danny Wilson, Barrie McKay, Martyn Waghorn and Philippe Senderos and Matt Crooks all started for Graeme Murty’s side against a County XI featuring ex-Gers David Brownlie and Dylan Dykes.

Liam Burt opened the scoring for the Light Blues after 20 minutes following a quick, counter-attacking move before firing beyond Aaron MacCarey in the County goal. The home side quickly equalised when, from a free kick, Ross MacIver looped a header past Robby McCrorie. Ten minutes before the break, Barrie McKay restored Rangers’ advantage when he skipped round MacCarey before stroking the ball home to make it 2-1.

After a bright start to the second half by Ross County, Tony Dingwall levelled the scores in the 56th minute when he picked the ball up near halfway before playing a neat one-two with ex-Auchenhowie kid Dylan Dykes before casually firing beyond McCrorie. The hosts could only keep the scoreline level for four minutes when substitute Amin Abaradan netted from a good save by MacCarey; the keeper protested furiously that the Rangers sub was offside but ref Billy Baxter wasn’t interested. After retaking the lead Rangers continued to press County looking to double their lead but were unable to get through MacCarey.

All five of the senior players came through unscathed and will be available to manager Mark Warburton for the visit of Dundee on Saturday.
