Croatian midfielder Niko Kranjcar has picked up a knee injury which is feared could rule him out for the remainder of the campaign. Kranjcar, who only joined Gers in the summer, has only just begun to win over doubters after an indifferent start to the season.

The training ground injury, which happened on Tuesday, is yet to be properly assessed by club doctors as they wait for swelling to go down but there are worries he may have damaged his cruciate ligament, which would likely end his season. Should it not prove as serious as feared it may mean a lay-off of just a few weeks for the 81-times capped star.

The news means the midfielder is almost certainly out of this weekend’s League Cup semi final against Celtic and, after two man of the match performances in his last two games, fans will be hoping he isn’t out of action too long.
