Burnley have confirmed that Scott Arfield has been given permission to talk to Rangers about a summer move.
The Scottish-Canadian midfielder’s contract expires in the summer, and it looks almost certain that he’ll be making the move to Ibrox on a free transfer.
Allan McGregor looks likely to be joining him, with that move also believed to be very close to completion.
Both of these should be good signings that will improve the team. The question is - are we getting them in before we’ve got a manager, or do we actually have somebody lined up? Rumours of course suggest that Steven Gerrard has been offered the role, and they seem to be highly likely to be accurate.
Of course, it’s Mark Allen’s remit to sign players, and no manager is likely to leave out quality on the level of Arfield and McGregor. But if we are going for yet another summer rebuild, it looks like things are moving very quickly.
