Jamie Murphy was expected to be announced as a Rangers player by now after he was pictured jetting in to Glasgow Airport a few days ago, but there’s still been no confirmation of the transfer by the club.
Reports stated that Rangers and Brighton were still to reach an agreement, although GTBFO understood that there was little problem with the deal. However, now our friend and yours, David Edgar, who is well-connected to the club, is reporting that the move will instead be a loan.
However, the difference is largely academical and centres around the structure of the finances. Given The Unpleasantness of recent years, Brighton haven’t been the first club to suddenly demand the money up front for a signing from us, and that appears to be the issue here. Instead, Murphy will be loaned with an agreement to sign in the summer - making him effectively our player and ensuring that he’ll be signing a contract with the club for the new season.
Murphy could be one of a few players coming in this season. We’re pretty keen on Greg Docherty, and it seems the club are too - although there’s been no bid so far. Watch this space....
