Alves came off injured against Partick Thistle on Tuesday night and Caixinha told yesterday’s media conference that the veteran defender was still being assessed.
While Alves will be a loss, McCrorie is a more than capable replacement for the 94-times capped Portugal defender.
McCrorie played 50 minutes against Partick after replacing Alves and impressed in his first-team debut.
The Under-20 captain looked confident and dealt with Thistle’s forwards well in an assured display.
Fabio Cardoso’s performance improved once McCrorie came on and the pair made a fairly good partnership at the heart of Rangers’ defence.
McCrorie was a stand-out last season in Graeme Murty’s Development Squad before joining Dumbarton on loan for the second-half of the season.
