Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Marseille has given Rangers fans cause for a little more optimism ahead of the rapidly approaching league opener against Motherwell however, the absence of Jordan Rossiter from the squad to face the French side has left some wondering if the 20-year-old has again succumbed to injury.
Rossiter, who missed most of last season with a back problem, wasn’t involved in either of Rangers’ last two friendly games and hasn’t been seen since the Europa League first qualifying round second leg against Progres Niederkorn at the start of July. After spending so long out, it may just be that the Ibrox staff are limiting the midfielders work load and he could feature in this week’s closed doors game at Watford or in the upcoming Hillsborough friendly with Sheffield Wednesday.
Witha host of new midfielders in the door this summer, and some suggestions Rossiter and Ryan Jack both perform similar roles in Caixinha’s side, there’s a possibility that the former Liverpool youngster could be in a similar position to the likes of Harry Forrester and Rob Kiernan and be on the way out of Ibrox, however, Caixinha has previously spoken very highly of Rossiter so it seems unlikely that his Ibrox career has finished.
