Reports tonight claim Rangers are tracking Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean for a summer move to Ibrox.
The ex-St. Mirren player is known as a Rangers fan, which might not matter a jot but it sounds good, and his Pittodrie deal is up at the end of the season so could move to Ibrox on a free transfer.
We recently discussed the possibility of McLean, along with 9 other potential SPFL targets, joining the Gers in the summer and here’s what we had to say:
CH: Simply not for me. Aberdeen's better players are still at Aberdeen rather than us, Celtic or an English team paying actual, real money for them because Derek McInnes has been a genius at finding players who are at exactly the level of his team. Not consistent enough to be a great success anywhere bigger.
JB: A couple of years ago? Absolutely. He’d have been a fantastic signing. Now not so much. Part of an Aberdeen that have progressively regressed over the last few years and has rarely impressed in the games I’ve seen him in.
We’ll take it with a pinch of salt for now (the same paper had Ryan Jack joining us recently) but we’re not convinced he’d really be much of an improvement on what he have; even allowing for the departures of Emerson Hyndman, Jon Toral and probably one or two others.
