Could Alex McLeish be set for long-term Rangers role?

Former Rangers boss Alex McLeish is the bookies favourite to replace Mark Warburton as Rangers manager but could the 58-year-old be in line for a long-term role at Ibrox?

According to Sky Sports, McLeish is open to either an interim role or that of director of football but it’s not clear if Rangers have any interest beyond a short-term deal. It’s widely expected McLeish will be appointed as interim manager but the suggestion of him then ‘moving upstairs’ won’t exactly fill fans with delight.

Derek McInnes, Billy Davies and Frank de Boer are the other names the bookies believe to be serious contenders with de Boer being the overwhelming choice with supporters
