REVEALED: Mark Warburton resigned, then tried to stay after Nottingham Forest job fell through, says report

Poor stuff from the manager, surprisingly.

Mark Warburton resigned from Rangers on Tuesday, but later asked to stay at the club, according to a report in the Telegraph.

The report comes from Roddy Forsyth, who has been pretty well-connected to goings-on at the club, so it's likely to be legitimate. It also explains the bizarre statement and the strange goings-on thereafter.

Forsyth claims that Warburton's agent asked the board to release the trio from their contracts, saving the club around £700,000 - they were planning to sack them soon, and so accepted the offer. However, the board were then 'stunned' when the agent then returned to ask if all three could remain at their posts.

Warburton now seems to be denying that he has resigned at all - there could be a disagreement ahead on whether the initial resignation was in fact binding, with the board saying aye and Warburton, Weir and McParland saying naw.

Stay tuned, this could get messy...
