Rangers boss Mark Warburton is set to make his first signing of the January window with the loan signing of Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral.

The 21-year-old Spaniard is currently on loan at La Liga side Granada but it’s expected the Reus-born midfilder will cut short his season-long deal there to reunite with Warburton, who he worked with during a loan stint at Brentford. In addition to loan spells with Granada and Brentford, Toral also had a successful season with Birmingham City which saw him lift the Fan’s Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Goal of the Season before returning to parent club Arsenal.

Toral initially moved to the UK when Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger plucked him and Hector Bellerin from Barcelona for a combined fee of around £300,000 but the creative midfielder has yet to make the breakthrough at the Gunners. With Joey Barton gone, Niko Kranjcar out for the reat of the season and Jordan Rossiter suffering from the worst calf strain in medical history, midfield reinforcements are vital for Rangers as the go into the second half of the season however with Toral only signing on loan until the summer some fans have already questioned the point of a short-term deal.
