Rangers have launched a bid to bring Port Vale goalkeeper Jak Alnwick to Ibrox after reportedly triggering a £250,000 release clause in his contract.
The 23-year-old, who started his senior career at Newcastle, joined Port Vale in 2015 and immediately became a favourite at the Stoke-based club; being appointed co-captain last summer.
The move for Alnwick will clear a path for Matt Gilks to leave the club after the former Scotland international struggled to displace Wes Foderingham between the sticks at Ibrox following his summer move from Burnley.
Update: Port Vale have confirmed an approach has been made for Alnwick on their official Twitter account:
Port Vale can confirm that we have received an approach for Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, however we have nothing else to report at this time.
