Mark Warburton could be set to solve his firepower shortage with a move for Preston North End striker Joe Garner, according to reports. Warburton, who has made no secret of his desire to sign a new forward in recent weeks, has identified the 28-year-old Englishman as his main target.
Despite reports suggesting Preston would demand upwards of £3m for the player it is believed Deepdale boss Simon Grayson would be willing to let the striker go for around £1m. Garner has started both of Preston’s games this season and is in the squad for today’s clash with Fulham.
Last season Garner only managed to hit the net 6 times in 41 Championship appearances although he was much more prolific in front of goal as the Lilywhites fought to make their way into England’s second tier scoring 43 times in 72 league appearances over the previous two seasons.
With Martyn Waghorn facing up to three weeks out with a hamstring injury Warburton will be keen to get his business done quickly and a move could be completed by early next week.
