After a meeting which lasted around an hour a decision was expected to, finally, be made on Barton’s Rangers future. However it appears there’s no change in the situation with the player remaining suspended (on full pay) and looking no closer to a definitive conclusion to the ongoing saga.
Barton was initially suspended in late September following an altercation with Mark Warburton and Andy Halliday which saw the ex-Burnley midfielder sent home. Within days he had appeared on TalkSport insisting he had nothing to apologise for and that it wasn’t the “message” he delivered but the way in which it was delivered.
The saga took a farcical turn when Barton’s suspension was extended on a number of occasions before the player was finally summoned to meet with club chiefs today to decide his future.
During his club-imposed ban, Barton reportedly travelled to Qatar’s renowned Aspire Academy for a 10-day bootcamp to try maintain his fitness ahead of any possible return to Ibrox.
Join us in a few weeks when we repeat this nonsense as Rangers fumble blindly to find a way to get Barton off the books.
