Is Nicky Law set to be given a new contract at Rangers?

Nicky Law has spoken of his desire to win a new contract at Rangers. We're not keen.

Jason Holt and Andy Halliday have signed new long-term deals, while Barrie McKay is expected to join them. Now Nicky Law wants to join the party too, saying this week:

"I had a chat with the manager a week or two ago. I expressed that I would like to stay and it was a positive meeting.

"The next couple of weeks hopefully there will be something regarding myself either way. You want your future sorted.

"I've just had my first child, so for me the biggest thing is security. Either way I'd love to have my future sorted."

Eh. We're not sure this would be such a good idea. Law is a decent option to have at this level, but we've become painfully aware of his limitations (his range of passing in particular is infuriatingly short), and while he's had a couple of decent performances this season, he's hardly set the world alight.

There was a story last week, indeed, that Law had been told he could move on if an offer game in. With Toumani Diagouraga expected to join and Jordan Thompson waiting on the bench, he might even find gametime hard to come by for the rest of this season. Next season, we can - and perhaps must - surely do a lot better.
